Botox

OVERVIEW

The muscles of facial animation are what can overtime give the lines and wrinkles that may give an aged appearance to the face. One of the most effective non-surgical approaches is the paralyzation of these muscles to give a more youthful look. This can be achieved by varies products including but not limited to Botulinum toxin (Type A)® and Dysport®.

These are injections that aim to block the nerve signals that cause muscles to contract. By injecting these products the net effect is the relaxation and smoothing of the look of lines and wrinkles.

Areas that are most commonly injected:

  • Between the brow

  • Crows-feet around the eyes

  • Horizontal forehead creases

RECOVERY

Botox (Botulinum toxin - Type A)® and Dysport® are injected underneath the skin and into the muscle, generally on the deep side where the nerve enters. The Botox needs to stay in contact with tissue at a strong enough concentration for some period of time in order to work. Patients are advised not to rub the area or exercise for 6 hours.

Over a period of 2-3 months, the effect of the Botox is overcome by the body tissues and the effect is lost.

Dr. Edgar Sosa will continue to follow you to ensure proper placement of Botox (Botulinum toxin - Type A)® and Dysport® and satisfactory results.

For optimal results, always select a board-certified plastic surgeon. Surgeons who are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery have undergone extensive training in the field of both cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery.
