Orlando Plastic Surgery Associates specializes in breast augmentation for patients searching to gain greater self-confidence. Prior to your procedure, you'll attend a consultation session with Dr. Sosa in which you will select the type of breast implant, the size, the approach used to place the implant, the location (over or under the muscle).

BENEFITS

The female breast is a defining aspect of the female form. Breast augmentation, commonly referred to as breast enlargement, is a surgery designed to increase or restore breast size using silicone gel implants or saline implants.

There are many reasons why women choose breast augmentation. Some patients are looking for a fuller look as they might feel that their breasts lack volume. Often after pregnancy, women might be disappointed with the loss of shape and/or volume. At other instances, there might be an anatomical reason that requires adjusting the contour of the breast. While other patients might feel that as they have aged their breasts have begun to experience some drooping (ptosis).

OPTIONS

When considering breast augmentation you will have options in the implant that will be used. There are many details to consider when planning your breast augmentation. You and your surgeon will discuss implant types, placement of the implants, and incision position.

There are several ways to perform breast augmentation surgery depending on the type of implant you choose and where the incision will be placed. During our consultation, we will be discussing what the best options for the outcome you would like to obtain. The most commonly used surgical technique is an incision below the breast.

Every effort is made to hide your scars along the natural contours of your breast. Although incision lines are permanent, in most cases they will fade and significantly improve over time.

First and foremost, you and your plastic surgeon will decide what type of implant is right for you.

  • Saline-filled breast implants are filled with sterile salt water. They may be prefilled at a predetermined size or filled at the time of surgery to allow for minor modifications in implant size.

  • Structured saline-filled breast implants are filled with sterile salt water, but contain a structure inside so they behave as if filled with soft, elastic silicone gel. This structure enables them to hold their shape better than traditional saline implants. Approved by the FDA and Health Canada in 2014, these implants have been available since 2015.

  • Silicone gel-filled breast implants are filled with soft, elastic gel and are available in a variety of shapes. All silicone gel breast implants are pre-filled and may require a longer incision for implant placement.

  • Cohesive gel silicone gel-filled breast implants, also known as "gummy bear" or "form stable" implants, are filled with a cohesive gel, made of cross-linked molecules of silicone, which makes them a bit thicker and firmer than traditional silicone gel implants. This enables them to hold their shape better. Approved by the FDA for use in the United States in 2012, these implants have been available in much of the world since 1992.

RECOVERY

Every effort is made to hide your scars along the natural contours of your breast. Although incision lines are permanent, in most cases they will fade and significantly improve over time.

Breast augmentation surgery will be performed at the hospital or an outpatient surgical center. This procedure will not require overnight stay. After you recover from surgery, you will be discharged home with instruction. You will be sent home with pain medication, care instructions, and a compression garment to reduce fluid retention and swelling and support the breasts.

After a breast augmentation procedure, you will have tender breasts and soreness. Swelling is also expected and will take a few weeks to improve. You will wear a surgical bra to support the breasts and promote settling of the implants. Your implants will initially sit high on the chest but will come down and settle nicely after a few months.

Many patients are able to return to work after a couple weeks and return to full activities after four to six weeks.

Dr. Edgar Sosa will continue postoperative care in the weeks following your surgery to ensure proper healing and satisfactory results.
