Face Lift

OVERVIEW

Rhytidectomy, commonly known as a facelift, involves many areas of facial aesthetics. The surgical technique is extremely comprehensive in addressing multiple areas of the aging face. It assists in giving the face a more youthful appearance by helping in the treatment of wrinkles and sagging skin.

By having a facelift, you can expect a longer lasting result for facial rejuvenation. A facelift can be broken down into its several areas of interest depending on the individual desire. Each patient will have a different need as such the surgery will be tailored to individual desires.

The components of a facelift may include upper and/or lower blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), sections of the face (upper, mid or lower face), or full face and/or neck lift.

BENEFITS

A facelift can considerably reduce these signs of aging by removing excess fat, tightening the underlying muscles, and re-draping the skin around the neck and face. If your problem areas are limited to the neck, a more conservative approach, known as a "neck lift" may be the procedure needed to achieve a more defined jawline.

Benefits include:

  • Improved self-confidence

  • Improved and toned profile

  • Smoother and youthful appearance of the face

  • Improved appearance of the face

  • Improved "double-chin" and jowls

OPTIONS

In a facelift, the incisions are generally placed in front of the ear, including around the ear lobe and then straight above the ear into the hairline and straight behind the ear into the hairline. You can expect some bruising for a few weeks after the procedure.

Dr. Edgar Sosa conducts thorough consultations with patients considering facelift surgery to address the full scope of what is to be expected before, during and post-surgery. We invite you to schedule a consultation to learn more.

It is expected that these surgical procedures are done under general anesthesia in the outpatient department of the hospital or in a certified surgery center. All Orlando Plastic Surgery Associates surgery cases that are performed in an ambulatory surgical facility are fully accredited to meet strict standards of the AAAASF (American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities).

RECOVERY

After recovery from surgery, you will be discharged home with care instructions. You will be sent home with pain medication, care instructions, and a compression garment to reduce fluid retention and swelling.

Facelift surgery is preferentially done under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure and a small drainage tube is left in place. The following day, you will come to the office and have this tube removed.

Bruising is noted after any surgical procedures. At about the third day after surgery, expect the area to be a deep purple, which will travel with gravity outside of the surgical area and be noticeable for 3-6 weeks. Many patients are able to return to work after a couple weeks and return to full activities after four to six weeks.

Dr. Edgar Sosa will continue postoperative care in the weeks following your surgery to ensure proper healing and satisfactory results.

For optimal results, always select a board-certified plastic surgeon. Surgeons who are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery have undergone extensive training in the field of both cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery.

Confidence is the most beautiful thing you can possess.
