Top 9: Questions to Ask Yourself

BY IN Plastic Surgery Comments Off on Top 9: Questions to Ask Yourself

Undergoing plastic surgery is a big deal. You will be making changes to your body that you will live with for the rest of your life. So, before you consult a surgeon, ask yourself these questions.

  1. What About My Appearance Bothers me?shutterstock_160629524

Make a list. Saggy breasts. Love handles. Your nose. Those forehead wrinkles. Be extremely analytic, and detail what bothers you about your features. Is your nose crooked and too large? Now, consider the cost. Can you afford the surgeries you desire? What? How will your friends and families react to your new look?

  1. How Much Do I Want To Change It?

When you look at your perceived body flaws, how much do they truly bother you?  For many women, the inability to find properly fitting clothing is a big factor in deciding to have breast augmentation. If you’ve worked hard to lose weight and kept it off, yet still have a bulging stomach, a tummy tuck or liposuction may be the only thing that will bring you peace of mind.

  1. What’s My Motivation to Change?

Cosmetic Surgery has to be your decision. If a friend, partner or spouse is pressuring you into it, and you don’t agree, don’t do it. If it’s for an occasion, such as a wedding or class reunion, will the pain, expense and recovery time be worth it?

  1. Do I Have Other Options?

In many cases, you do, which is why consultation with one or more plastic surgeons is so important. Don’t be afraid to ask about different methods that can be used to address your concerns.

  1. What Will My Friends and Family Think?

Of course, those who love you think you’re perfect just as you are. But seek their opinions anyway. State your case and ask what their thoughts are.

  1. After Surgery, Can I Hide Out?

You’ve probably watched reality shows and waited for “the big reveal.” It doesn’t work that way in real life. There will be bruising, which may take months to fully subside. And truthfully, the more you have done, the more difficult it is to hide. So you might as well go ahead and ’fess up.

  1. How Am I Going to Pay for My Surgery?

Cosmetic surgery is not cheap. It can easily run into thousands of dollars. You may have the patience to save for it, or finance your surgery. If you don’t have the cash on hand, think long and hard about your budget before going under the knife.

  1. Do I Have Time For Recovery?

Again, real life is not what you see on a reality show. In many cases, you’ll need 10 to 14 days to begin to feel better. And if you know from experience that your healing process takes longer, you’ll need more time. And what if there are complications? Can you deal with those? No one can predict precisely what will happen during your recovery phase. Be prepared for the worst, and aim for the best.

  1. How Do I Find The Right Surgeon?

Well, how do you shop for a new car? You do your research. You ask friends and family for recommendations. You visit some showrooms, and take one out for a test drive. You should pay at least this much attention to detail when selecting a surgeon. Schedule consultations and seek professional opinions before you make your final decision.
